The ENSURE guidebook for regeneration of urban deprived neighbourhoods is the result of the Innovative Urban Planning Management  project, 1998-2001, co financed by Interreg IIC European Regional Development Fund and the Danish Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and based on the experience of its partners.

How to use this guidebook

On these pages, you will find the key issues for regeneration of deprived urban neighbourhoods as we have defined them in the Innovative Urban Planning and Management project .

Each issue is independently represented by a "building block": brief text defining the issue, some statements emphasising important aspects as common denominators, and points noting questions that are most difficult to resolve and that may call for individual solutions in different local circumstances.

To provide just one of the ways to access them, they are arranged in several umbrella "chapters" according to various aspects of regeneration on the left side of this text. There is neither strict hierarchy nor sequence of the "chapters" and of the "building blocks": many of them reveal different aspects of the same problem and they can be read and referred to individually or in any conceivable order.

Our next steps will be:

  • to add examples from our own projects and other projects;
  • to cross-reference the texts;
  • to add an intelligent search interface.

All readers are welcome to give opinion, raise questions, and suggest other examples to be included in the discussion board provided in this Web site.
