Case Studies The Glasgow Case Study. The Gorbals
Projects
Time Bank is a volunteer exchange scheme where members earn credits for the time they spend helping other members in the community. These credits can then be used to “buy” other peoples' skills and services. Through this, Time Bank members can earn rewards for good citizenship.
One further aspect of the scheme is that when a member has accumulated 50 credits they can apply for a refurbished computer.
In addition Gorbals Initiative is running a scheme in partnership with another local project whereby school pupils are eligible for a range of rewards (cinema tickets, book tokens SECC gift vouchers) by taking part in a mentoring scheme.
To date Gorbals Time Bank has 150 members who have exchanged 2200 hours. This figure is the equivalent of half a community worker's post.
