Case Studies The Danish Neighbourhood Regeneration Programme. Kvarterløft in Copenhagen
The Business Network in Kongens Enghave
The decline of the harbour Until the 60's the harbour provided the Kongens Enghave neighbourhood with many jobs because of the many industries in and right next to the harbour. These jobs were manual jobs in transport industries and car assembly factories – matching the skills of people living in the neighbourhood. But when the ships left the harbour a period of decline started, resulting in fewer enterprises and fewer jobs, and there were no longer the same need for workers in Kongens Enghave. In the 1990's many international enterprises started to build at the harbour front. But the skills and educational level required for the jobs in these enterprises were much higher than what was available locally. The new companies in the neighbourhood represent the new technologies: IT and telecommunication with companies like Nokia, Ericsson, Aston Group etc.
