Case Studies   The Danish Neighbourhood Regeneration Programme. Kvarterløft in Copenhagen

Implementation of the projects

In the regeneration projects the process in working together with the residents in the specific neighbourhoods has been essential. This process starts by finding out what issues are to be picked out as aims for the regeneration project. Through the whole process the residents are participating. An example is the Green Nerve in Kongens Enghave where residents participated in deciding and discussing details as for example where trees should be planted and so forth. (For other examples see chapter 4 Project Examples.) This way of working together not only with the residents but also with both the municipality, entrepreneurs and residents have made it possible for all participators to gain knowledge on how the other stakeholders react and participate in the project. The municipality have gained knowledge on for example the Kongens Enghave neighbourhood and its residents and the residents have gained knowledge on how the municipality works and so forth. On the other hand the way of working together in many aspects of the different projects also slow down the actual process of a project because it becomes possible to discuss almost everything in project. This projects process leaves both the faults and the successes in the projects very open.

The tendency have been that in many projects residents participated very actively in the start of the project process but the residents need (physical) results to stay focused on the project and to keep investing their time in it. This is important to stress from the beginning of the project because where the residents in the start participate the outcome and successes is mainly towards the end of the projects where fewer residents participate. It is therefore important in the implementation of the projects that it is stated for the residents from the beginning that the projects will take time to follow.
