ENTRUST - Empowering Neighbourhoods Through Recourse of Urban Synergies with Trades

Across Europe, cities face the challenge of deprived mixed function neighbourhoods in recession, social problems of disadvantaged residents intertwining with the economic difficulties of declining businesses.

The ENTRUST thematic network is financed by The Fifth Framework Programme for the European Union's research, technological development and demonstration. The project commenced 1 February 2002 and will last 26 months.

ENTRUST brings together researchers and end users from Berlin, Dublin, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Hamburg, Lisbon and Vilnius (Malta submitting an application under NAS call). These cities together provide ample basis for the collection of a critical mass of emerging innovative experience.

The subject for co-operation was defined through a survey of international experience which helped to carefully select members according to their experience and capacity, forming a consortium of institutional variety and diversified expertise to answer the above challenge of substantive regional, European and global significance.

The objective is to produce explicit guidance to various stakeholders how to form mixed public-private partnerships working on aims as above. Such partnerships are instrumental in regenerating deprived mixed function neighbourhoods, reversing decline and moving towards sustainability through decentralised empowerment, increasing competitiveness, improving quality of life and enhancing cultural identity.
