February 27, 28, 29 and March 1, 2000, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (Switzerland), an international transdisciplinarity conference of joint problem solving among Science, technology and society was held. The Conference was dealing about new forms of mutual learning involving science, technology and society to efficiently meet the complex challenges of the 21st century, more than 600 advanced scientists from all around the world took part.

The paper on findings of the IUPM project, presented by Paulius Kulikauskas, received a diploma (1 of ten among 250 projects from around the world) of Swiss transdisciplinarity award.

The Jury distinguished the paper for "its lucid analysis of stakeholder participation and for overcoming obstacles in cross-sectoral urban planning".
